Around 85-90 women suffer from
cellulite, usually formed in areas with the minimum circulation and without
activity. The skin seems to have lumpy appearance with fat deposits. In short,
it is a kind of fat accumulation beneath the skin. And it is quite common for
those who suffer from it to go on a diet and exercise to try to get rid of it.
But quite often, they feel hopeless because those two things don’t really help
much.
Now, there is a new procedure to
remove cellulite called Cellfina system. When Alyssa Aresenault, 24 years old, noticed
that she had cellulite and she had tried both diet and exercises. She was quite
hopeless with the result because her cellulite was still apparent. Then, she
met a friend who told her about the new system.
She said it the system was great
because it needs the least recovery time. Dr. Kevin Cross of Cross Plastic
Surgery in Center City said the procedure was designed to smooth out bouncy
cellulite, caused not only by fat but also by thin bands of tissue.
Dr. Cross said there is a new procedure
to help treat cellulite, known as Cellfina system, using a vacuum hosing to
pull up the skin. A needle-shaped cutting device is placed in into the hosing in
a certain skin area. This is done after the doctor anesthetized the area and
cautiously maps out the dimples. The skin is pulled up by vacuum hosing one
target area at a time.
This system will discharge the tied
bands in the areas between the muscle and the skin surface. After the bands are
physically released, they break like a rubber band and become unable to restore,
said Dr. Cross. This procedure, proving its results in the last 2 years,
changes the skin’s architecture. Dr. Cross said that women could be thrilled with
the results because it lets women avoid the relapse of cellulite, something that
they hope for decades.
Unfortunately, Cellfina system is
not designed for women, who want to lose a large amount of weight or those with
wrinkled skin. Dr. Cross explains further that Cellfina system is for women
with shadows or dimples on areas of their body. Besides its expensive cost
(starting around $2.500), another disadvantage of this system is that patients
may have some swelling or bruising on their body. However, they still can
continue their routine activities.
Another new treatment for cellulite
is called Xiaflex which claims can destroy the septa or the bands beneath the
skin which causes cellulite. Xiaflex uses an injectable enzyme approved by the
FDA to treat a hand condition, and it is now being tested to disappear the
septa and smoothen butts and thighs. 150 women were given three treatment for three
weeks.
Can we actually remove cellulite by
exercising?
Regular exercise and weight
control can help prevent cellulite to some degree besides improving the
appearance of the lumps. It is quite a common condition for people, most of
whom women, to have fat collected under the skin surface due to many factors
such as genetics, sex, age or the skin thickness.
Lack of regular exercise and having
an inactive life can contribute to the formation of cellulite too. That is why
at least you lose weight if you do regular exercise and hopefully there is no
fat accumulation in certain parts of your body. Once it is formed, it is very
hard to really remove it from your body.
Besides that, sports activities
such as aerobic and strength-training can burn your fats and decrease the look
of cellulite. When people grow older, cellulite is usually more visible even with
regular exercise.
Another question : Are there any kinds of food to monitor or
something else to do to prevent the cellulite from getting worse?
Foods play an important role in
reducing the appearance of cellulite. You should eat lots of produce and foods
that contain fiber. Try to maintain a stable body weight. If you gain weight
and loss quite often, the look of cellulite will worsen. Try not to use creams
and oils they claim are able to remove cellulite.
Consult your doctor if you have
more concern about your cellulite.
